The KZN Deaf Association was established in 1932.  The original premises located in Hermitage Street in
Central Durban, served as a social club for the Deaf community
In June 1987, the Association purchased the Old Norwegian Seaman's Mission at 180 Mansfield Road on
  the Berea in Durban
Shortly thereafter the Association negotiated with the Department of Social Welfare to acquire social work posts in order to render professional social work services to the Deaf community of KZN
